Nevellene Linquist has had a successful career in both commercial businesses and organisations in the Not for Profit sector. Over the years her professional development has enabled her to acquire new knowledge and understand interesting concepts, however a couple of years ago her participation in the 10 month long ELIAS program (Engaging Leaders Innovating Across Sectors) … changed everything.

In her own words … “I was a new person”.

This program combined the structure of the Centre for Social Impact at UWA with the internationally acclaimed Presencing Institute’s concept of Theory U, in a program of experiential and adaptive learning.

Amy and David Bandy faced a challenge many couples experience when trying to start a family…mother nature was not cooperating. The traditional approach of IVF was also not a guarantee, so Amy took it upon herself to embrace nature and all things spiritual.

She listened to family, sought advice from many experts, including practitioners from non-traditional fields … but most importantly followed her own intuition.

Justin Davies has spent his career continually trying to “keep off the rocks” whilst learning as it goes. Starting one business within weeks of the Tech Wreck in the early 2000’s and then setting up his current business Emergination in 2008 … right in the middle of the 2008 financial crash.

He honed his sales skills in the digital world right at the start of the internet era … at a time when business models were changing all the time. All trying to keep up with the continually changing technology.

As a pioneer in tech innovation in WA, Justin has played a pivotal role in shaping the local business scene and in a way that involved “just having a go” in an ever changing business environment.

The creator of Numero®, Rev. Frank Drysdale (1932-2011), was forced into early retirement in 1989 when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. One of Frank’s own remedies to this situation was to keep himself mentally fit by playing mind games, many of which involved cards. He enlisted the help of his young grandchildren to help him pass the time playing different card games.

Numero® was developed as a product of these sessions with his grandchildren, as Frank started with a simple concept and developed it into the game we now call Numero®.

A new era began in 2018 with publishing and distribution rights returning to the family fold, with their daughter, Julie, regaining control of Numero’s® future, through Independent Education and Training Pty Ltd. This company was formed to look after Numero® going forward and will cover everything Numero® related, incuding publishing, sales, distribution, marketing, professional development and the interschool competitions run in Western Australia on an annual basis.

Alastair Mackenzie has filled his life with many things, but now has a passion to make the lives of others better.

Jason Milhahn dropped out of uni after 2 years and began a journey around the world.

It would see him be away from his home town for over 9 years as he pursued the dream of escape.

During this time he worked in the snow fields of Europe, Canada and the US … pursued the love of snow boarding … and immersed himself in the world of beer, cocktails and spirits. He left Australia with a dream and eventually came home with a range of skills, a lifetime of memories and stories, and a keen idea for what’s important in life.

How do you think you would cope being locked down in another state … and not being able to get home. In fact, regulations from your own home state keep you out.

Mark Gatty had a successful corporate career before he chose to go into business for himself.

BUT the change was not an obvious progression.

He went from working on doing deals in the Terrace … to owning and running an asphalt supply and lay business. What could have been more different?

For over 13 years he successfully grew the company’s goodwill and financial success on a basis of sound, yet simple, business principles, creating a loyal workforce and quality work.

Lisa is currently the CEO of the WA Aids Council and sets her daily goals to make a real difference.

BUT, the journey to this position came through a tough period for her. Being out of work before taking this role … she was financially, emotionally and professionally challenged during this period. However, Lisa was able to take meaning, inspiration and spiritual awareness from the experience, to become the inspired leader she is today.

She has words of wisdom for everyone who at some stage is challenged in their life.

Peter and Vanessa Taylor spent nearly 5 years in Shanghai, China … on a delicate work assignment.

Dealing with the cultural issues, significant commercial pressures and living away from their two teenage daughters, it was an adventure that really influenced their lives.

Peter even lost a quarter of his body weight in a personal quest for health and fitness.

Interesting times in an interesting place.

Ryan Honschooten is a natural sailor. World champion, ocean racer and Sydney to Hobart finisher … he has done a lot to fulfil his sailing bucket list. Ryan always challenges himself and his disability to get the best out of life.

When he got the call to do the Sydney to Hobart … with only 2 weeks notice … he jumped at it.

From leaving “The Heads” in Sydney to arriving at the docks in Hobart, Ryan through himself headlong into the adventure.

His story will inspire you.

“I had some real intentions to be a player agent … I was convinced I was going to be Jerry Maguire … Australia’s version.”

“But tending to all the needs of “Jock’s” was probably not something that was going to be fulfilling.”

Al Brien and his wife Bev retired in 2017 and took the big, bold step to travel through the US in an RV for 6 months in 2018.

Their adventure didn’t just stop in the US. Further travels through South America filled up the rest of their year.
